5 Tips for Tackling Your Spring Cleaning

Posted by Dominic Irpino on April 13, 2020

Now that we’ve all been sheltered in our homes for about a month, we wanted to check in and see how you are doing and make sure you are staying sane, staying healthy and staying busy. Remember, the team at IRPINO Real Estate is here for anything you might need from groceries to a virtual hug 🙂

Being at home this long is enough to make any of us go a little crazy from time to time. One of the easiest ways to combat that feeling is with a bit of Spring Cleaning. It’s not our favorite way to pass the time, but it will leave you with a home that feels refreshed. It will re-energize you and make you happier overall. So crack open those windows, let some fresh air in, and get to work. You will be happy you did!

5 Tips for Tackling Your Spring Cleaning

1. Make a to-do-list, then divide and conquer

Start with a wish list of everything you want to clean or organize, then go from there. Coming up with a calendar to split chores into different days can help make your list seem less daunting. Monday could be focused on the kitchen, Tuesday the bedrooms, you get the idea. Assign chores to everyone in the home – even the kids!

This article has great examples of Spring Cleaning Checklists to get you started.

2. Short on supplies? Make your own!

Cleaning supplies can be hard to come by at the stores right now but even if you’re out of some household cleansers, chances are, you have the right substitutes on hand to make a DIY version. Some of the items in your pantry (like baking soda and vinegar) work as effective all-purpose cleaners and cost next to nothing.

3. Don’t just clean. Organize.

While you are pulling everything out of your cabinets and off the shelves to dust, why not spend a little extra time on each area and actually organize the contents of each drawer, shelf and closet? Set aside the things you no longer need so you can donate them later. This is the perfect time to get your house clean AND organized. Don’t skimp on either task!

Here’s 8 expert tips for organizing your home.

4. Don’t forget those neglected areas

Once you’ve covered the basics, it’s time to go deeper. Now that we all have a bit more time on our hands, let’s take advantage of it and clean those often neglected areas of the home like the inside of drawers, the top of the window frames, and even your kids’ toys.

Here’s a list of 20 things you might be forgetting to clean.

5. Clean your digital clutter.

We all have those emails we get each week we keep meaning to unsubscribe from. Or old emails piling up in our inbox that need to be filed or deleted. Maybe your passwords could use a revamp for extra security. Or maybe you even have old devices you no longer use that need to be properly disposed of. When you’re going through your Spring Cleaning, don’t forget to clean and organize your digital life as well.
